The heart of a modern civilisation is its energy supply. It is the engine that keeps a social system running and ensures the supply of energy to everyone involved, whether human or animal. If this heart gets out of sync because it is hit by massive external influences, the entire system begins to falter and can, in the worst case, break down. Avoiding this requires fast, uncomplicated and above all free support from companies that have the technological and economic means to provide bridging support.
One of the four virtues in Buddhism, “karuna”, means just that: The recognition of an emergency situation combined with the will and realisation of genuine support to alleviate the plight of another. For GS YUASA, as a Japanese-owned company, this approach is part of the corporate philosophy, as the following examples show:
Securing energy supplies and protecting lives
Indonesia is repeatedly the target of severe natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods. Rescue workers are dependent on the use of heavy equipment, for which they need a stable power supply. But this is usually the first thing to be interrupted during natural disasters. In order to be able to provide rapid help on the spot, industrial storage batteries are the optimal solution for the emergency services.
PT.GS Battery (Indonesia), for example, supplies storage batteries manufactured by GS YUASA to the fire brigades in the Indonesian province of Karawang. In 2022, 108 batteries ensured that the relief workers could do their work.
In Turkey, Inci GS Yuasa Aku Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi ensures a continuous supply of GS YUASA storage batteries to all vehicles of Turkey’s largest search and rescue organisation (AKUT) – a total of 91 batteries have been donated since 2019. When the south-east of the country was hit by a devastating earthquake in February 2023, the company donated relief supplies including tents and containers for shelter, basic toilets, heaters, hygiene kits and winter clothing, as well as 300 storage batteries needed for power systems.
One of the largest wildlife reserves in Southeast Asia also benefits from the social commitment: storage batteries from GS YUASA are provided by Siam GS Battery to the Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary in the Thai province of Kanchanaburi. The 3,647 km2 area has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. Measures have to be taken to protect the animals and plants living there from poachers and trespassers, so even this piece of untouched nature needs energy. This is generated sustainably by photovoltaic systems and fed into an energy storage system with batteries donated by GS YUASA.
