World leading battery manufacturer GS Yuasa has reached a major milestone in its corporate history with the official opening of its new headquarters and distribution centre in Swindon, UK. This facility not only forms the centre of GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, which co-ordinates six GS Yuasa sales companies and one manufacturing plant in Europe, but also serves as the operational base for GS Yuasa Battery Sales UK Ltd. With the opening of the new headquarters, GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd will relocate its head office from Ebbw Vale/Wales, to Swindon. This strategic decision is aimed at linking the various divisions of the company more closely and further expanding the market influence of GS Yuasa’s European subsidiaries.
The buildings cover an area of 16,583 square metres and, with state-of-the-art warehouse equipment and precisely planned automated racking systems, will allow a significant increase in efficiency and capacity: With space for nearly one million batteries and 23,000 pallets, the distribution centre represents a 70% increase over the previous volume. A crucial aspect in ensuring a reliable and efficient supply chain worldwide.
Andrew Taylor, Managing Director and CEO of GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, believes: “The investment in this new headquarters reflects our commitment to consistently improving the customer experience, customer service and offering. With the state-of-the-art warehouse solutions and larger storage capacity, we are ideally prepared to meet the growing demand for batteries in Europe and the UK and continue to grow successfully.”
The German subsidiary GS YUASA Battery Germany GmbH is based in Krefeld and serves 15 countries within Europe from there. Together with other subsidiaries, it ensures short delivery times and high availability of high-quality batteries in OEM quality for applications in the industrial, automotive and motorbike markets. The local presence also makes it possible to understand the requirements of the target markets in the respective countries even better and thus to offer the best possible individual service.
The ceremony, which will be attended by around 120 guests including customers, corporate partners, local dignitaries, media representatives and employees, will take place on Monday 18 September. Osamu Murao, President of GS Yuasa Corporation, will cut the symbolic ribbon to open the new headquarters. A traditional Kagami Biraki ceremony, a performance by a Japanese artist, as well as a sushi workshop and a sake tasting will form the supporting programme.
